Carbon Re joins Prime Minister’s reception for key members of the UK AI ecosystem at Number 10 Downing Street
Buffy Price, COO & Co-founder, was delighted to represent Carbon Re at the UK government’s intimate reception celebrating the UK AI ecosystem on Tuesday. A number of senior government ministers – including chancellor Rachel Reeves and Health Minister Wes Streeting – joined the invite-only celebration, which focused on plans to make the UK a more attractive place to build and scale an AI company.
Poppy Gustafsson, former Darktrace founder and nowMinister for Investment, and Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, spoke with enthusiasm about the government’s commitment to fostering home-grown AI innovation. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasised the UKs ambitions in the Global AI Race and his commitment to the AI Opportunities Action Plan, which aims to support entrepreneurship and technological leadership.
Speaking after the reception, Buffy said:
“It was fantastic for Carbon Re to be recognised as one of the leading AI innovators in the UK by this government. It was also an excellent opportunity to connect with some of the most talented founders and CEOs of AI companies driving change across various industries. However, I urge the government to place much greater emphasis on AI’s role in tackling environmental and societal challenges. The UK has the potential to be a leader in both AI excellence and sustainability – but only if we have the courage to stay focused on what’s truly at stake.”
Carbon Re, a spin out of UCL and University of Cambridge, is an industrial AI company dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency in hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, and glass manufacturing. Through cutting-edge machine learning and AI-driven process optimisation, Carbon Re helps manufacturers to lower emissions and reduce operational costs.
With the UK government prioritising AI growth, Carbon Re remains committed to leveraging AI for meaningful climate action and advancing the UK’s position as a global leader in sustainable AI innovation.
